Question:
I cannot, for the life of me hit a 1-wood for any distance or accuracy. Generally I hook the ball into whatever environmental hazard the hole offers after 100 or 150 yards of lightening fast wormburning. I've convinced myself that the root cause of my problem is the oversized nature of the common 1-wood, which to me resembles a toaster on a stick. So, I've been shopping for a new 3-wood to hit off the tee, and I'm hoping I can find a small headed club that fits my eye better. The two clubs that I've read about are the Adams Tight Lies series and the Callaway S2H2. Before I demo or buy one of these puppies I thought I might ask you for recommendations on small headed 3-woods.
Answer:
As you can assume, there are many smaller headed woods on the market. The most important aspect of purchasing a club (once it fits your eye) is having the correct shaft. I would suggest trying Ping and Titleist as they both have low profile fairway woods. Once you have selected a model that is visually pleasing, see your local Professional to be properly fit for the correct shaft. Once you have been fitted, take the club that is matched to your swing out to a hole on your local course that usually gives you grief. Tee up a few balls and get over the mental (visual) block of not being able to hit it where you wish.
Many players purchase clubs based on performance on the practice tee. This is vastly different than the golf course, where we have one shot (not a pile of balls) to execute with no recourse other than teeing up another ball!
