Question:
I find that my right toe digs into the ground a little bit on the downswing and follow-through. What would that be a sign of?
Answer:
If your feet are changing positions or digging in while you swing, it's a sign that you have excessive lower body motion and also indicates the club isn't working with your body. In the golf swing we have 3 dimensions: body rotation, arm swing and hands. You need to properly blend all of these to have a balanced swing. To get the sensation of what you need to work on, complete the following drill: Place a piece of wood (1 x 2 inches) underneath your front foot and over top your back toe. Hit some balls concentrating on having loose grip pressure and allow your arms to drop the club down on plane. You will start by hitting some fat/thin shots, as your arms and hands start to loosen up and trust the sensation, you will begin to release the club and make better contact. Good Luck ...
