Problem Ballooning drives with incorrect golf shaft.

Question:

I would like to change my driver because I’m ballooning the ball at 85% of the time.
I like Taylormade drivers. Can you tell me what driver and shaft I need to correct this?

I don’t want to impress nobody but I’m a big driver (the longest driver of the club), but when there’s wind, I loose a lot of distance.

When there’s no wind its ok but my ball go’s too high. Also when I go to my ball, most of the time, the ball does a back spin or stop right where it fall.

I don’t know my swing speed but look detail below. (I’m pretty sure that I have a big swing speed)

Right now here is the driver that I have:

Taylormade xd58
9.5
65 gr
Stiff, low torque
Age: 34
Weight:260lbs
Handicap: 8

PW: 125-130yds
9: 150-155
6:195-200

Drive: I drive 275-325, all depend if it’s windy. No wind I usually drive around 300yrd. What can help me to reduce the ballooning. The ball goes so high that sometime we can’t even see it.

What driver or shaft, you can suggest?

Answer:

Hi Yanick,

You really need to try out different shafts and compare on a driving range to get the most accurate answer. However, the main detail which sticks out to me with your current shaft is that it is too light. Considering your size and the distance you hit the ball, I suggest trying the following specs:
The details on the left of the dash are a shaft you should try (weak as you should ever go), and the details on the right would be a shaft that would be as strong as you should use based on your comments. /p>

  • 75 - 85 grams
  • 2.8 - 1.8 torque
  • Stiff - extra stiff
  • Low launch for all
  • Make sure your grip size is not too small as well!
  • Select a tour model head; they are designed to produce less spin and lower launch

If you are from our area, we can set up a fitting. Or, I can suggest someone in another area which you can see to do this.

Let me know how it goes.

Good luck.
