Question:
I need help making a decision. I am a 13 handicap. I am pretty consistent in the high 80's. My biggest problem is around the green ... short game. Another problem is I get 15 to 20 rounds in a year. The last 2 years has had me hitting TaylorMade RAC LT's with 6.0 shafts. I did OK and hit many good shots. I decided that since I play so seldom maybe a set of forgiving clubs would make my game a happier one. So I trade my RAC's for Ping G5's. I have read nothing but great things about these clubs. Verdict.
After 2 rounds I have to say I hate them. I stink. I don't think I hit one good shot. Left, low, and just plain bad. Do you think it will take time to get use to them? I am not sure of this, because I can pick up someone else's clubs and hit them ok. Are they maybe the wrong clubs for me. I hit down on the ball and wonder if the wide sole makes me bounce. Is it possible for such a highly praised club to be wrong for me (yes, they were fitted), or am I just over reacting and need some time to figure them out? Help please as I am embarrassed on the course.
Answer:
If they were fit properly to match your swing, technically it doesn't make sense you should be struggling that much! However, the "feel" of our golf clubs is an aspect that we can never discount. The main details which make up the feel are the weight and grip size. I suggest you compare your old clubs with your new ones and note the differences. It may be that the pings are much lighter that the Taylor Mades! What shaft did you get in the pings (True Temper Dynamic Gold or True Temper TT Light)?
Please let me know and I will help you figure it out!
