Stop the Ball on the Green

Question:

I'm an above average golfer and I was wondering if there was any way to get the ball to back up or at least stop on a dime on the green?

Answer:

To put backspin on the ball, your club must travel through impact with a square clubface on a sharp angle of attack into the ball. This aggressive, sharp angle into the ball must be followed by a "pull back" action of the shaft through impact (which typically feels as though the club is decelerating).

This is a very difficult shot to explain, as it is extremely "feel" oriented and the sensations vary for each individual player. The easiest way to begin to get the feel is by hitting some pitch shots with the sensation much similar to that of skipping a flat rock on water. If you would like to request a detailed video tip of this technique, please email me and I will send you log in instructions to my online video vault.
