Question:
I am just starting golf. I have had a couple of lessons from a golf pro, but all I have is an old used set of clubs. I can get the ball of the ground 80% of the time, but my drives don't go that far. Should I be looking for some newer more forgiving clubs? If so, how do I know what clubs are best for me?
Answer:
First of all, you are very wise to begin this game by taking lessons. Many people wait until they have ingrained bad habits which typically plague them for years.
If you are comfortable with the instructor who gave you the lessons, I would ask him/her to custom fit you based on how you swing and your body type. Most golf professionals who teach are very well trained in club fitting, as this is one dimension which prevents players from getting better, assuming they understand what they are trying to do and feel in their swing.
