Question:
I have been playing for 4 years. I am 25 years old, and have been playing much more regularly over the past year. I currently shoot in the low 90's with a very mix/match set. I want to upgrade my set but I'm not sure which way to go. Either I buy a good knockoff (goliath) until I'm good enough for a good set, or get a middle line set like ram fx3's or buy a good used set. What would you recommend?
Answer:
It's very important to be custom fit by a golf professional before you buy clubs. This will ensure your clubs are properly matched for your body type and swing. Once you have the correct golf club spec's, it's a decision that is based on money, performance and aesthetics. I suggest you choose a name brand and order the clubs that you use frequently. The major advantages with choosing this route is you only pay for the clubs that you need. For example, most people don't use a 3 iron or 4 iron and in most "knock off" sets purchasing these clubs separately is not an option. The other advantage to choosing a name brand (Ping, Titleist, Wilson, Mac, etc.) is that they stand behind their clubs in the event of a defect from the manufacturer.
