Question:
Explain the meaning of using the big muscles in the golf swing? How do you do that and does the mean that you don't use the hands at all in the golf swing? My left arm is a little bent at set up. How can I set up to get my right arm? Straight at set up? Are there any drills to improve my left arm straightness at set up? Also my right knee straightens up at the top of the back swing. And at impact it is straight what can I do to keep the knee flexed like the pros? Do you have any drills to improve my right knee action? Also how do you feel about the one piece takeaway? How do you do it and is it even worth trying? Do you have any drills for takeaway improvement? Also I have noticed that a lot of the pros at the halfway mark of the takeaway have full cock of the wrists. They say that you are not to left the club up or cock the wrists concisely. In my swing the club stays under the shaft plane more so than the pros do. Much like Mike Weir. Do you have any drills to improve swing plane?
Answer:
Thanks for your questions. To effectively produce a sound golf swing it is important to understand that the swing has 3 dimensions: body, hands & arms. These three dimensions all need to work in concert in order to deliver a repetitive swing that doesn't require the golfer to make compensations in any one of these areas. For example, if the body is too active, it puts too much pressure on the arms and hands to square the clubface. Using the bigger muscles means that the body, hands and arms are working together, commonly described as a one-piece takeaway.
